Description

Travelling along the shores of Lough Allua leads us to Ballingeary, where the first destination of Gougane Barra is reached.

Hidden in the folds of the Shehy mountains, walk through the remains of the 6th-century monastic settlement, and experience a true sense of peaceful serenity. Enjoy a bite to eat or coffee at the Cronin's Cafe, which offers an exceptional view of the lake.

Moving on from Gougane Barra, the tour heads back towards Cork city. This route offers pitstops for photos along the way, at Tanner Bridge and Inchigeela Mass Rock. Following the country lanes lead us to Cahirvagliair Ring Fort, which dates back to 1000AD.

A 10-minute drive takes the tour to Kinneaigh Round Tower, a 6th-century tower and one of only two in West Cork. Weather permitting, a stop at Horn Hill stone circle is arranged. A must-see for history enthusiasts, the tour continues to Béal na Bláth, the site of the ambush and death of Michael Collins in 1922.

The West Cork Scenic Tour concludes at St. Finbarres cathedral in Cork city centre, where you’re free to wind down for the evening and enjoy Cork’s panoramic evening views and excellent dining choices.
