Driver's Introduction

I'm Mike Harty myself and my fellow Galway drivers have been showing the Wild Atlantic Way to visitors for more years than I care to remember. Did you know that O'Briens tower on the cliffs of Moher was probably the first purpose built tourist attractions in Ireland.

The tower was built on the cliffs in 1835 by the local landlord and MP Sir Cornelius O’Brien as an observation point for the English tourists who frequented the area at the time. It's been said that it was used as a teahouse, another story tells of Cornelius building the tower in order to impress the women he was courting!

Whatever the truth is, from this the tower on a clear day you can clearly see the Aran Islands and the Twelve Bens near Cliften Connemara on the other side of Galway Bay. As full time professional taxi drivers we have been down every road and lane
